Welcome to Text & Context
Publications by Joseph Cone, writer and editor

I am very pleased that my biographical novel about my earliest known ancestor, Daniel Cone, is now in print and available directly from me or from Amazon.com. For the thousands of Americans living today who are descended from this first Cone in North America, this book will connect them to a fascinating heritage–a Scottish prisoner, captured in the bloody last battle of the English Civil Wars and deported to New England in 1653, who would very likely have left little trace if he had not become a servant in the leading Puritan family of New England, the Winthrops. As it happens, I uncovered enough primary historical documents to construct a dramatic account of Daniel’s life in these early years of the American colonies.
